Here’s a cocktail to get you into the festive spirit, courtesy of Le Sirenuse’s head barman, Robert Wimmer. The key thing is to find a really good, intense chocolate liqueur.
Put all the ingedients in a cocktail shaker with a generous handful of crushed ice. Shake vigorously, and strain into a martini glass. Serve topped with a sprinkle of grated white chocolate.
Robert Wimmer’s aim in creating this cocktail was to reproduce, in alcoholic form, the bittersweet taste sensations of the Amalfi Coast’s famous scorza di arancio – candied orange peel dipped in dark chocoltate, like that produced by artisanal pasticceria Pansa in Amalfi’s main square.
“The simplest things are the best”, Robert comments. “The more ingredients you add, the more you risk getting it wrong”. Here’s wishing you a simply wonderful and wonderfully simple festive season, from all of us at the Sirenuse Journal.
