18.11.2013. Le Sirenuse
For Carla Sersale, the driving force and creative mind behind the Emporio Sirenuse, it all began as a kind of game, sparked by the challenge of doing a hotel shop that was different from the usual hotel shop – one that was not even inside the hotel. More than twenty years on, the Emporio Sirenuse, which spreads across two stores on Via Cristoforo Colombo in Positano, has forged its own identity and become the go-to Amalfi Coast address for stylish, curated fashion and accessories.
Now the Emporio Sirenuse has found a way to go global – while staying small, eclectic and personal. The Online Store of the new-look Emporio Sirenuse website carries a curated selection of some of the most sought-after items sourced or created by Carla for her Positano boutiques, including several exclusive items.
Among the latter are Allegra Hicks’ Sirenuse-motif bathing trunks for men, offered alongside an evergreen range of classic linen shirts. Or the collection of women’s kaftans, dresses, silk shirts and palazzo pants created in Mumbai by Carla’s niece, Viola Parrocchetti, whose work brings a contemporary verve to bear on Indian textile traditions, with all pieces made by expert local cutters, tailors and screenprinters.
Also exclusive to the Emporio and the Online Store are a set of strikingly chic throw pillows inspired by the patterns on antique suzani textiles from Central Asia and quilts from Rajasthan. And then there are the ever-popular colourful ‘Bora’ tumblers made by historic Murano glass film Carlo Moretti, which are one of the Emporio’s great success stories (today it’s the single most important sales point for Moretti glassware outside of Venice itself).
As in the Positano shop, the Online Store collection will be frequently updated and expanded to feature some of the under-the-radar finds Carla likes to discover while travelling. Watch this space for some ultra-desirable printed scarves in Merino wool courtesy of Mumbai concept store Bungalow Eight – the perfect Christmas present for the hard-to-please style bunny.
